Terms and Conditions

These Terms & Conditions apply to all visits, experiences, bookings, events, activities, gift vouchers and purchases made with Highland Cow Cottage.
By making a booking, purchasing a ticket, attending an event, entering our premises or participating in any experience, you confirm that you have read, understood and agree to these Terms & Conditions.

1. BOOKINGS & PAYMENTS
1.1 Booking Confirmation
All bookings must be paid in full at the time of reservation unless otherwise agreed in writing by Highland Cow Cottage.
Bookings are only confirmed once payment has been successfully received and a confirmation email has been issued.
1.2 Payment
Payments may be made through our website, authorised booking platforms or by any other method approved by Highland Cow Cottage.
We reserve the right to cancel any booking where payment has not been successfully processed.

2. CANCELLATIONS, REFUNDS & RESCHEDULING
2.1 Customer Cancellations
Cancellations made 7 days or more before the scheduled visit date will receive a full refund.
Cancellations made less than 7 days before the scheduled visit are non-refundable.
As our staffing, catering, facilities and animal management are prepared specifically for booked groups, we are unable to offer refunds for late cancellations.
2.2 Customer No Shows
Failure to attend a booked experience or event will result in the booking being treated as a no-show and no refund will be issued.
2.3 Highland Cow Cottage Cancellations
In the unlikely event that Highland Cow Cottage must cancel a booking, visitors will be offered:
• A full refund; or
• An alternative date.
This includes cancellations due to extreme weather, safety concerns or operational issues.
2.4 Animal Welfare, Biosecurity & Government Restrictions
Animal welfare will always take priority.
Highland Cow Cottage reserves the right to alter, shorten, postpone, substitute or cancel experiences where required for:
• Animal welfare
• Animal health
• Veterinary advice
• APHA or DEFRA guidance
• Biosecurity measures
• Safety concerns
Where possible, a suitable alternative experience will be offered.

3. ARRIVAL & CHECK-IN
3.1 Arrival Time
Visitors should arrive no more than 15 minutes before their allocated booking time.
3.2 Late Arrivals
If you are running late, please notify us as soon as possible.
Whilst we will make every effort to accommodate late arrivals, this cannot be guaranteed.
Arrivals more than 15 minutes late may result in the booking being cancelled without refund.
3.3 Safety Briefings
Visitors must attend any required safety briefing before participating in experiences.
Failure to do so may result in participation being refused without refund.

4. WORKING FARM ENVIRONMENT
Highland Cow Cottage is a working farm.
Visitors should expect:
• Uneven ground
• Mud and slippery surfaces
• Animal waste
• Livestock
• Farm machinery
• Agricultural vehicles
• Insects and wildlife
• Changing weather conditions
• Natural farming hazards
These conditions form part of a normal farm environment and do not constitute grounds for complaint, compensation or refund.

5. VISITOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Visitors must:
• Follow all staff instructions
• Remain within designated visitor areas
• Respect staff, animals and other visitors
• Wear suitable clothing and footwear
• Supervise children at all times
• Follow all biosecurity measures
Visitors must not:
• Enter restricted areas
• Climb fences or gates
• Chase, frighten or harass animals
• Feed animals without permission
• Behave in a manner that may compromise safety
Highland Cow Cottage reserves the right to refuse entry or remove visitors without refund where behaviour is considered unsafe, disruptive or inappropriate.

6. CHILDREN
All visitors under the age of 18 must be accompanied and supervised by a responsible adult at all times.
Parents and guardians remain responsible for the conduct and safety of children in their care throughout their visit.

7. ANIMALS & LIVESTOCK
7.1 Animal Behaviour
Animals are living creatures and their behaviour can never be fully predicted or guaranteed.
Animals may:
• Move unexpectedly
• Change direction suddenly
• React to noises or movement
• Make physical contact with visitors
• Behave differently depending on weather, surroundings or other animals
Visitors acknowledge and accept these inherent risks.
7.2 Highland Cattle
Many of our Highland cattle have substantial horns.
Visitors acknowledge that physical contact with an animal’s horns, head, body or feet may occur despite reasonable supervision and safety precautions.
7.3 Animal Welfare
Animal welfare always takes priority over:
• Visitor experiences
• Photography opportunities
• Events
• Social media content
• Commercial activities
Highland Cow Cottage reserves the right to alter or terminate any activity if deemed necessary for welfare reasons.

8. VIP HIGHLAND COW EXPERIENCES
VIP experiences involve entering a livestock field and being in close proximity to Highland cattle.
Participants acknowledge:
• Livestock are large, powerful and unpredictable animals
• Highland cattle possess substantial horns
• There is always an inherent risk associated with entering a livestock environment
All participants must:
• Be aged 18 years or over
• Sign the VIP Experience Disclaimer
• Follow all staff instructions
• Wear suitable clothing and footwear
• Remain with their guide at all times
Highland Cow Cottage reserves the right to terminate participation immediately where safety or welfare concerns arise.

9. ALLERGIES & DIETARY REQUIREMENTS
Visitors must advise Highland Cow Cottage of any allergies or dietary requirements before ordering food.
Whilst every reasonable precaution is taken, food is prepared in environments where allergens may be present and cross-contamination cannot be completely eliminated.
Consumption of food is entirely at the visitor’s own risk.

10. PREGNANCY
Due to the nature of a working farm and proximity to livestock, pregnant visitors are advised to seek appropriate medical advice before attending.
Certain activities may be restricted at our discretion.

11. BIOSECURITY
Visitors agree to comply with all biosecurity measures implemented by Highland Cow Cottage.
These may include:
• Handwashing requirements
• Foot dips
• Restricted access areas
• Temporary suspension of animal interactions
• Additional disease prevention measures
Failure to comply may result in refusal of entry or removal from the premises without refund.

12. PARKING
Vehicles and their contents are parked entirely at the owner’s risk.
Highland Cow Cottage accepts no responsibility for loss, theft or damage to vehicles or personal belongings.

13. PHOTOGRAPHY & FILMING
Visitors may take photographs for personal use.
Commercial photography, filming or content creation requires prior written consent.
Highland Cow Cottage may occasionally capture photographs or video footage for promotional purposes.
Visitors who do not wish to appear should notify a member of staff upon arrival.

14. SMOKING, VAPING & PETS
Smoking and vaping are only permitted in designated areas.
Pets are not permitted unless specifically authorised or where required by law.

15. GIFT VOUCHERS
Gift vouchers:
• Are valid for 6 months from purchase unless otherwise stated
• Are non-refundable
• Cannot be exchanged for cash
• Must be redeemed before their expiry date

16. LIABILITY
Visitors acknowledge that visiting a working farm and interacting with livestock involves inherent risks.
By attending, visitors voluntarily accept those risks.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or any liability that cannot legally be excluded under English law.
Subject to the above, Highland Cow Cottage shall not be liable for:
• Loss of enjoyment
• Loss of earnings
• Travel expenses
• Indirect or consequential losses
• Damage to personal belongings
• Injuries arising from the inherent risks associated with farming environments and livestock activities

17. FORCE MAJEURE
Highland Cow Cottage shall not be liable for any delay, cancellation or failure to perform its obligations due to circumstances beyond its reasonable control including, but not limited to:
• Extreme weather
• Disease outbreaks
• Government restrictions
• Utility failures
• Flooding
• Fire
• Industrial action
• National emergencies

18. COMPLAINTS
Any concerns should be raised with a member of staff during your visit wherever possible.
Formal complaints should be submitted in writing within 14 days of the visit.

19. PRIVACY & DATA PROTECTION
Personal information is processed in accordance with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.
Information is used solely for legitimate business purposes including bookings, customer service and legal compliance.

20. CHANGES TO THESE TERMS
Highland Cow Cottage reserves the right to amend these Terms & Conditions at any time.
The version in force at the date of booking shall apply.

21. GOVERNING LAW
These Terms & Conditions shall be governed by and interpreted in accordance with the laws of England and Wales.
Any dispute shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Courts of England and Wales.

By making a booking, attending an event or participating in any activity at Highland Cow Cottage, you confirm that you have read, understood and agreed to these Terms & Conditions.
